What are the benefits of buying a certified used car?

If you like Subaru cars, you might not know that you can buy a certified used-car as an alternative to a new car. When a car has been “certified,” this means that it is a used car offered for sale by the original manufacturer. Oftentimes, the manufacturer includes extended warranties that go beyond the initial coverage. Typically, the extended warranty goes into effect when the original warranty expires. Just as with the new-car warranty, a used car warranty offers coverage for a certain number of years or miles, typically whichever comes first.
One of the benefits of buying a certified preowned vehicle is that it’s usually less risky than buying a used car that isn’t, and can give you some additional benefits. If you’re thinking about buying a certified preowned car, consider the following:
1. When a manufacturer certifies a preowned car, this is usually a guarantee of quality. CPO (certified preowned) vehicles are usually in excellent condition and have low mileage. They are usually put through multipoint inspection that covers more than 100 elements. This includes the engine’s mechanical condition, the electrical system’s status, and the condition of tires and wheels. In addition, a road test is usually done to ensure that the CPO vehicle will do as well for you as a new one would.
2. When you buy a CPO vehicle, you usually get a quality vehicle for a lower price. Even though a CPO vehicle can cost you more than your typical used car, it will still be much less than a brand-new vehicle of the same make and model. If you buy a CPO vehicle, you can usually get a more luxurious model and more options than you would if you spent the same money on a brand-new vehicle.
3. Most manufacturers have CPO programs that can give you additional cost savings and added peace of mind. Typically, these programs give you extended warranties, beneficial financing options, and free roadside assistance. Make sure you ask your dealer what’s included in the price when you shop for a certified preowned vehicle.
4. A manufacturer warranty is valid for a CPO vehicle even if you move or the dealer goes out of business. You should know that CPO programs differ, especially in terms of warranties. However, if the vehicle has been certified by the manufacturer itself, your warranty remains valid for the length specified; you can exercise your warranty benefits through any qualified dealership.
5. With a CPO car, you won’t have new-car depreciation. You might not know that once you drive a new car off the dealer’s lot, the value of the car goes on significantly; sometimes, it loses as much as a third of its value just by driving it off the lot. Of course, this won’t happen to you with a CPO vehicle.
In addition to the above benefits, you might also be eligible for other benefits, such as “free” maintenance included in the cost of the car, lower rate “incentive” loans to buy the car, service loan cars, or pickup and drop-off service. You might also be able to get an extended warranty at additional cost. However, the real value in a CPO car lies in the coverage already included in the car you’re considering. Simply put, certified used cars provide similar benefits to new cars without the extra cost. If you’re interested, check into owning a certified preowned car.
